On the day of our departure...

This past Sunday morning, this sending prayer was prayed, sending us forth from our parish on our pilgrimage: Gracious God, you know our coming and going, our rising and sitting, even our words before they are sung and spoken.  We give you thanks for the St. Paul’s Choir who minister beside us in the music and worship of this place.  We give you thanks for the marvelous gifts of music, care, and service which you so lovingly place in their hands and for the many ways our lives have been touched by their presence.  Now the time approaches for them to leave our midst on their pilgrimage to England.  By your grace, grant them safe travels and keep them in good health. Continually inspire them to sing your praise now and always. We ask this in the name of Christ. Amen.

Also, we give thanks for the privilege of singing with the full choir at this past Sunday's Bon Voyage Concert. It was a wonderful moment and fun for the entire choir to be together as not everyone will be with us in body on the tour, but certainly, all will be present in spirit. I can't say it any better than one of our singers wrote after the event: "Please follow with us every day on the exciting England Choir Tour!  St. Paul's Choir sounded perhaps the best I've ever heard it sound.  We had 32 singers for the Bon Voyage Concert.  This will be my 3rd trip to England, but the first time I've ever sung in a Cathedral.  I am so excited and thankful to St. Paul's and Douglas!  I've been in choral music as a conductor, pianist, organist and singer, but this is the highest choral experience of my life.  Please pray for us and we will pray for you!

In today's Daily Office Gospel according to Luke the story of the widow's mite is a reminder of the blessings God receives when we give from a state of poverty. [In other words, when we give all that we have without attachment or fear.] May it be so for the choir as we raise our hearts and voices in the coming days.
